Bringing Buenos Aires to Denver - BA Pizzeria and Grill

Whenever I wish I could be in Buenos Aires while living in Denver, I head to the Buenos Aires Pizzeria, a partially hidden gem in north downtown. There is something comforting about the atmosphere of the restaurant, with photo of Tango singer legend Carlos Gardel on the wall with various football paraphernalia and photos of the city. It's as if you've walked into any restaurant in Buenos Aires. The menu includes a nice selection of Argentine wines, empanadas, Argentine style pizza options, pastas, several typical sandwiches, and some delicious gelato.

Más que un hombre

Title: Más que un hombre
Released: 2007

I recently saw Más
que un hombre
in the fashionable Puerto Madero Cinemark theater in Buenos Aires. The movie was one of the only Argentine films among the sea of Hollywood flicks, but the theater featuring Más que un Hombre ended up being completely empty. Despite the lack of local interest, the film was a great take on an old theme: life during the Dirty War military dictatorship of the 1970s, with (somehow), a comedic twist.

Tango Electrónico: Gotan Project and more

Musical group the Gotan Project is starting to make the crossover in America to become a recognized name in modern Tango music. Here in Argentina, it's practically reached Fergie bubblegum pop status. The other day we heard the same Gotan Project album played at 6 different shops, partially for the benefit of tourists I'm sure. The name, Gotan Project, comes from Spanish slang in Buenos Aires in which syllables in words are reversed, where cafe con leche becomes feca con chele and tango is therefore, gotan.

Pinots from Patagonia?

The post-Sideways Pinot Noir craze in the US is about to get a new international fusion, from Patagonia, Argentina. Argentine wines usually bring to mind Malbec, a woody, earthy varietal imported from France over 100 years ago or Torrontes, light, white wines from the north of Argentina. According to our friends at lo de Joaquin Alberdi Vinoteca, a great wine shop in Palermo Viejo in Buenos Aires, it's time to start trying Argentine Pinot Noir, made from wineries in Neuquén.
