Classes through the Denver Spanish House

The Immigrant Experience: Events in Denver
- 26 MILES: Curious Theater Company (across Acoma from Denver Spanish House) invites you on a cross-country, cross-cultural road trip. In 26 MILES, playwright Quiara Alegria Hudes (2007 Tony-winner for IN THE HEIGHTS) takes us on an impromptu road trip with a vivacious Cubana and her estranged teenage daughter. (May 7th through June 20th)
Sin Nombre: is a Sundance Festival Film now showing at the Esquire. The Spanish-language movie tells the intersecting stories of a Honduran family emigrating to the US and a young boy's initiation into gang Mara Salvatrucha in southern Mexico. While thought-provoking and well-made, Sin Nombre's "R" rating for violence is not gratuitous.
Cinco de Mayo concert: Un Toque de Mexico: the Colorado Symphony Orchestra will be presenting a free concert on May 5th at 7pm in honor of Cinco de Mayo. This holiday, more often celebrated in immigrant communities outside of Mexico, commemorates the defeat of French forces by the Mexican army in the Battle of Puebla.
