A smaller project from a winemaking family: Pulenta Estate, La Flor, Gran Corte

Tour of Pulenta Estate

A barrel with wineglasses sits at the entrance of Pulenta Estate Winery, welcoming visitors to the winery, luring them to taste delicious wines. Sauvignon Blanc grapes ripen next to the beautiful, modern, and naturally landscaped facility.

The tour starts out with one of the winery's trademarks: Sauvignon Blanc. Supposedly, the winery sells out of this varietal early every year, a fact which we came to understand while sipping the wine through the tour.

Pulenta Estate Wines

The winery carries three lines:

  • La Flor de Pulenta Wines is the young line, which includes the famous Sauvignon Blanc, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Malbec Rosé. These wines ferment in stainless steel tanks and the reds spend a short time in oak.
  • Pulenta Estate includes the varietals of the winery: Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc, and Cabernet Franc.
  • Gran wines, which include the Gran Corte (blend), Gran Malbec, and Gran Cabernet Franc. The Gran Corte ends up being a different composition every year depending on what grapes are the best, certainly a unique practice compared to other wineries we've visited. The higher-end wines spend time fermenting in concrete and age in new French oak barrels.

Trapiche to Pulenta Estates

The Pulenta family formerly owned and ran mega-winery Trapiche, a project they sold so the brothers could start their own projects. Carlos Pulenta runs Mendoza-based winery Vistalba while Eduardo and Hugo Pulenta spearheaded Pulenta Estate in 2002.
