Describing people: La historia de Esmerelda

Class Goals:

For students to practice recent vocabulary describing people through inventing and following along with a class story.

Class Activities:

Students arrive and complete the do now activity (attached below) to practice adjectives that describe people.

As a class, we're inventing a story to utilize some of the vocabulary and structures we've been working on recently. We're using TPRS to tell the story, which uses a lot of repetition and is done entirely in Spanish.

New vocabulary we're using for this story:
quiere encontrar a un mejor amigo (she wants to find a best friend)
viaja a (she travels to)
conoce a (she meets)
por tren (by train)
por avión (by plane)
por carro (by car)

Story so far (that we've created together):

Esmerelda (la protagonista) tiene 75 años.
Es generosa, elegante, y guapa.

Esmerelda tiene un problema. Quiere encontrar a un mejor amigo.
Primero, viaja a Colombia por avión.
Conoce a Jorge.
...to be continued...
The rest of the story aims to practice our ability at this point to describe people (physically, personality, nationality, age, name) and to practice our new phrases above.

Tarea (homework): students need to make flashcards out of the vocabulary we're working on including: words to describe people (worksheet attached), family members (students should have this in their notes as we've worked on it several times), and the verb tener (definition below). We've been working on all of these concepts the last several weeks.

tener (to have)
tengo (I have)
tienes (you have)
(él, ella, usted) tiene (he/she/you formal have)
tenemos (we have)
(ellos, ustedes) tienen (they/y'all have)
