3rd Period Matrix- 11/18

Class Activities: 

-Students answered comprehension questions about the Frida Kahlo reading we did in class on Wednesday.
-We talked about surrealism and looked at different surrealist paintings. We discussed why Kahlo said in her quote that she is not a surrealist painter.
-We reviewed the conjugation of the gustar-like verbs (see previous lesson for worksheets)
-Students individually read a biography in Spanish about Pablo Picasso. We looked at pictures of his artwork and discussed a few comprehension questions (see attachment for biography)
-Student were given homework on the gustar-like verbs. It is due the Wednesday after Thanksgiving (see attachment for assignment)

2nd Period Matrix- 11/18

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills as a group.
-We reviewed the use of the verb “tener” which means, “to have”. We practiced using it to speak about what kind of personal features people in the class have.
-Students did a checklist hunt using personal features and descriptions. They were told to only use Spanish, asking one another, “¿Tienes ______?” and responding with, “Si, tengo ______.”
-We discussed various expressions where you use the verb “tener” (see attachment)
-Homework was given using the “tener” expressions. It is due next class period, the Wednesday after Thanksgiving (see attachment)

Before School: ¿A qué hora vas...? (11/16)

Class Activities: 

-Students began class translating questions from Spanish to English.
-Students reviewed how to ask for the departure time of a transportation vehicle.
-We discussed how to conjugate the verb “ir” (to go) according to the speaker. (see attachment for list)
-Students practiced conversational skills in partners, asking when each other goes to math class, sports, lunch, etc.
-There will be a QUIZ on Friday 11/18 on these concepts. (see attachment for study sheet)

3rd Period Matrix- 11/16

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed the use of the verb “gustar”, and how to express preferences. We discussed the conjugation of other verbs that are similar to “gustar” and students filled out worksheets with the correct uses of these verbs. (see attachment)
-In partners, students read a biography in Spanish on the Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo. We discussed reading questions as a group and looked at photos of her artwork. (see attachment for reading)
-Homework was given (see attachment). It is due next class period, Friday 11/18.

2nd Period Matrix- 11/16

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed the meaning of the words “Soy” and “Estoy”. In class, they read a story about a girl named Amalia. Students read the story and answered follow-up questions individually. (see attachment for story)
-We discussed how to talk about personal features (see attachment for list)
-Students learned the use of the verb “tener”, which means, “to have”. When talking about what hair, eyes, etc. I have, I say, “Yo tengo...”. For talking to someone else, you say, “Tu tienes...” (you have).
-Students practiced conversational skills with these concepts.
-Homework was given on personal features (see attachment). It is due next class period, Friday 11/18.

Students translated the following words for their first activity:

We went over the words and students formed questions.

In pairs, students wrote a dialogue of a Logan student and an exchange student spending a year at Logan. They presented the dialogues to the class.

Yoga y el cuerpo humano: clase de yoga y práctica con verbos

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and wrote on a flashcard how to conjugate ud. and uds. commands (mandatos).

Students competed in teams with verb drills, practicing usted and ustedes commands (using verbs from our yoga unit). Students were also quizzed on our yoga positions (águila, puente, cobra, triángulo).

We did a quick yoga class practicing listening comprehension on our verbs and yoga positions.

Tarea: students each received two notecards. On the small white notecard, they were to draw their yoga position. On the long notecard, they had to write step by step instructions on how to do the pose. We are going to use the notecards to make a loteria game.

Conversación: diálogo for class 11/9

Class Activities: 

Students wrote names in the attached do now activity describing students in class.

The substitute teacher wrote a conversation on the board asking for help from the group.

Students got into two circles and practiced the dialogue (adding changes and extra questions if they could). Students switched partners and practiced the conversation several times.

In pairs, students wrote a dialogue between a student at Logan and an exchange student coming to study at Logan. Students will present their dialogue next class.

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced their conversational skills with their classmates.
-We reviewed how to express our preferences with “Me gusta(n)”. We also reviewed how to express the preferences of others (you, he, she, us, them).
-Students learned about the verb “ser”, which means “to be”. We practiced using it to describe objects and people. Ser is used for describing more permanent features. You can say “La silla es roja” (“The chair is red”).
-No homework was given and we will not have class this Friday 11/11

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced conversational skills with their classmates.
-We reviewed the “to be” verbs, ser and estar and discussed how to change the verb according to the speaker.
- For ser: “I am” is “Soy” and “You are” is “Eres”. Students practiced coming up with questions and responses using the verb ser.
- For estar: “I am” is “Estoy” and “You are” is “Estás”. Students practiced coming up with questions and responses using the verb estar.
-Students finished working on their Day of the Dead skulls.
-No homework was given, and there is no class this Friday 11/11.
