-Students practiced translating dollar amounts into Spanish. If you missed class, try doing some on your own: $15.25, $27.35, $41.50, $38.75, $9.23
-Students practiced conversational skills with one another.
-I handed back the quizzes on the restaurant vocabulary and verbs. We discussed the correct answers together.

-Students have a homework sheet due this Friday, Jan 6 (see attachment)
-I will be out of town this Friday, Jan 6. My sub will be Karina, who has previously subbed at Logan for Spanish. She is from Colombia and is very excited to have our students in class.

Class Activities:

Hi high beginner Spanish class!

I apologize that lesson plans weren't posted the two weeks before holiday break since I was in South America. Students had a substitute from Colombia and continued to learn about cultural aspects of the Spanish speaking world including information about Colombia and festivals celebrated throughout the region. I am now officially back on track in terms of posting lessons.

In class today, students answered the following question:

Escribe 2 cosas interesantes de las clases con Karina.
I asked students to share one interesting thing they learned.

We talked about typical elements of a letter:
* fecha (date)
* querido/querida (dear)
* sinceramente (sincerely)

Students wrote a letter to Karina (the substitute while I was gone before break) thanking her and sharing what they learned. Phrases used:

  • Gracias por... (venir/enseñar)
  • Me gustó...
  • Aprendí..
  • Fue interesante...
  • Mi festival favorito es...

We are going to review what students learned about festivals and have a quick test next week. The test will include information about our culture unit and verbs:

  • lucha libre
  • festivales
  • verbs and conjugations (ser/estar/hay/tener)

We spent the remainder of class starting our review as I asked questions about the above items.

Tarea: study information about festivals, lucha libre, ser/estar/hay/tener

Hi intermediate Spanish class!

I apologize that lesson plans weren't posted the two weeks before holiday break since I was in South America. Students had a substitute from Colombia and continued to learn about South America, including important people, flags, identifying countries on the map and capitals. I am now officially back on track in terms of posting lessons.

In class today, students answered the following question:

Escribe 2 cosas que aprendiste en la clase de Karina (de Colombia, de banderas, capitales, personas, y geografia de América del sur)

We practiced past tense conjugations (see below) and students asked each other what they did over break. They talked with everyone and filled out the attached form.
Ej.: Estudiante a: ¿Qué hiciste durante las vacaciones? Estudiante b: Fui a Nueva York.
To conjugate in the past for regular verbs, drop the ending (ar/er/ir) and add the following endings:
-ar (é, aste, ó, amos, aron)
-er/ir (í, iste, ió, imos, ieron)

I explained that for my break I went to South America and did a cruise. Students were paired up and received attached worksheet. We went to the computer lab and students were to use clues to come up with the name of places described. Then, they were to plot the places on a map to come up with the most likely route of the cruise.

Tarea: finish above activity.

-We discussed the Latin artists we have read about and each student said who their favorite artist and painting is. Salvador Dali seemed to be rather popular with our class!
