I presented a poem by Pablo Neruda and pretaught vocabulary before reading and interpreting the poem. Students had a few minutes to work on their poem.

Tarea: keep working on their poem to present next week!

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and corrected a proficiency test they took last year. We went over half of it as a group. Students got their Costa Rica/verbs test back.

Students went to computer lab to work on their Neruda poems and to start researching magical realism -- what it is and who are important writers in the genre.

Tarea: correct test and be ready to present poem on Thursday

Before School: High Beginner 3/7

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions about tango and we watched a couple videos of the dance.
-Students were split up into groups for a project. Each group will be teaching the lesson to the rest of the class. One group has salsa; the other has flamenco. They divided up the tasks for the project. They all need to complete the reading on their music/dance. The group should compile 6-8 homework questions (and provide answers to me). They should also find a video (or a few) to show the class.
-We will have a little time in class Tuesday to work in the groups.
-HOMEWORK: work on your group project.

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed conversational topics and phrases.
-We finished the story we began last week.
-Students had a few minutes to write as much as they could remember from the story.
-We played Simon Says.

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed conversational topics and phrases.
-We reviewed the story we did in class last week.
-Students filled out a question sheet about our story and turned it in. We will go over answers next week.

Before School: Beginner 3/6

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed clothing vocabulary and the verbs used (llevar and tener) for talking about it.
-I handed out an explanation of "Cuanto cuesta?", how to talk about cost (see attachment).
-We reviewed numbers for talking about cost.
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet on the cost vocabulary/sentences. They should write out the number in Spanish for practice (spelling does not count). It is due next Wednesday (see attachment).

Logan intermediates 3/6/13: La Naturaleza

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and read aloud a few children's books with animal vocabulary. There were practicing pronunciation and vocabulary. After reading, students shared new vocabulary they learned which we shared on the board (photo attached).

I taught poem including prepositions of place:

cerca y lejos

y ahora muchachos se acaba la rima!

We played a review game reviewing nature, animal, and parts of animal vocabulary.

Tarea: review vocabulary above (worksheets attached) and work to memorize preposition poem above.
