Before School: Beginner 2/6

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed conversation topics.
-We went over vocabulary used in Carnival (see attachment).
-Students listened to history and description of the festival Carnival, which filling out a worksheet. We looked at photos of costumes and traditions of Carnival.
-Students read about "Entierra de la Sardina", the Spanish Carnival tradition (see attachment).
-We will begin making our own sardines next class.
-HOMEWORK: Complete worksheet (see attachment)

Before School: High Beginner 2/5

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed present tense verbs when talking about Carnival.
-We went over the previous homework together, and how to answer questions in complete sentences.
-Students read about "Carnaval" (see attachment).
-Students began answering questions on Carnival (see attachment).
-HOMEWORK: Students should finish answering the Carnival questions.

Logan high intermediates: Costa Rica 2/5/13

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and began cooking one of two recipes, either cajeta de coco o plátanos fritos. Cooking took the entire class and students tried both recipes when they were done.

Tarea: research and write down 8 basic facts about Costa Rica (what the flag looks like, who is the president, what Costa Ricans are called in Spanish).

Logan intermediates 2/1/13

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and wrote any ideas they have for projects they have for the remainder of the year, their vote on how we should spend our budget money for the class and anything they need more practice on.

Students handed in the corrections to verb conjugations from their test.

Last student presented their origami, concluding our unit.

We did a listening comprehension activity where students had to match pictures with a message. The activity was relatively easy for the group so we will be moving up a level next time.

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and translated verbs in the present (from Juan's lesson Tuesday):

We talked about food from Costa Rica based on texts students had written, and we voted on what we're going to make next week as part of learning about Costa Rica. Students should meet in the kitchen Tuesday for class. We also talked about a possible field trip to a latin supermarket after winter collective.

Margot taught her lesson on present perfect and students had to come up with a story about life experiences of different drawings Margot handed out.

Tarea: study verb conjugations, we will have a test on verb conjugations from the review lessons students have taught in the next few weeks (present, close future--ir a + infinitivo, present perfect, imperfect, preterite).

-Students took a quiz on travel and vacations vocabulary.
-We looked at some review vocabulary about the festival of Carnival (see attachment).
-We began reading about the festival (see attachment).

-Students reviewed conversational topics.
-We read about the festival Carnival, celebrated in many Latin countries (copies of reading are outside the classroom-2 white pages).

-We looked at photos from Carnival celebrations around the world.
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet to complete on the reading (*see attachment or outside classroom).

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed use of verbs for answering questions about travel.
-Students practiced in partners talking about the weather and what kind of clothing you would need to pack.
-We played a memory game for practice with clothing and packing your suitcase vocab.
-HOMEWORK: study for quiz on Friday (Vacations vocab sheet, time, "Hay que hacer la maleta" vocab sheet)
