2nd Period Matrix- 1/30

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed use of "gustar" and how to talk about what people like to do.
-Students practiced conversation questions in partners, using new questions we know how to answer.
-Students practiced action words with commands.
-We played a circle game to practice talking about what activities we like to do.

Students were given back their tests they took on latinos famosos (with adjective practice and conjugation of preterite verbs). Sorry I did not get these back earlier.

The remaining students who haven't taught their origami presented to the group.

Tarea: students need to correct the first section of their test (1-10) with preterite verbs. Please look at this preterite lesson to clear up any questions about past tense verb conjugations. Students can also come early to the next class to get any help they need.

Before school high intermediate 1/29/13

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and read a simple book aloud to the group to practice pronunication. We went over some vocabulary from the books (see photo of board).

Students presented their map of Costa Rica and others were able to answer questions about CR.
¿Costa Rica comparte una frontera al norte/sur con qué paises?
¿Cómo se llama la capital de CR?
¿Cómo se llama un volcán muy famoso?
¿Cómo se llama la parque al noroeste de CR?
¿Las costas de CR tocan qué cuerpo de agua?

Juan presented his mini-lesson on present tense verbs and drilled students on their verb conjugations with a game.

Next class, students will present their history of Costa Rica and remaining students will present their verb mini-lesson and activity.

Tarea: texto corto de la comida de Costa Rica. Vamos a decidir lo que vamos a cocinar en la clase el próximo martes.

Before school intermediate 1/25/13

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and worked with a partner to find 7 difference in similar but different photos. We went over as a class and reviewed a bit of vocabulary.

Students received sheet (attached) of peace quotes. We've been talking about peace in light of Martin Luther King Junior day last week. Students needed to figure out what two quotes mean and discuss them at their table. We went over this as a big group.

Students gave their origami instructions to the group in Spanish while others followed instructions. Students did a GREAT job with this despite being a slightly complicated task. A few more groups are going to present next class.

Class Activities: 

Students filled out attached sheet to share some preferences for the rest of the year (deciding between projects, how to spend our budget).

Students handed in their homework about their unit.

In groups, students finished their project they started from last class. One group was in charge of making a map of Costa Rica and the other was in charge of important historical events. They will present what they learned next class.

Tarea: complete map or historic events project.

-Students review vocabulary for while on vacation.
-Students presented their mini-dialogues to each other and shared feedback.
-Students received new vocabulary on packing one's suitcase for a trip (see attachment).

-We reviewed using "gustar" to talk about what someone likes to do.
-We practiced with how to make sentences and questions asking about what someones likes to do.
-We played a couple games for more practice with "gustar".
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet to complete for Wednesday (see attachment).

Before School: Beginner 1/25

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed using "gustar" with different subjects.
-We corrected our homework as a group.
-Students practiced conversation questions in partners.
-We will begin a project next class. Students should create two characters to share a dialogue, or conversation. One character can be fictional, mythical, or anything really! We will start this in class on Wednesday.
-HOMEWORK: Think about what two characters you want to do for the project.
