Logan intermediates 4/10/13: Video Mi vida loca

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and corrected mistakes in each of the sentences below:

  1. Me llamo es Sara.
  2. Hay no estudiantes en la clase.
  3. A mi mamá no le gusta las arañas.
  4. Me gusto viajar.
  5. Mi amigo vivo en Francia.

We went over mistakes.

We reviewed the conjugation of present tense verbs, including regular -ar/-er/-ir and irregular verbs tener/venir and ir.

Students had the remainder of class in the computer lab to write their script for their travel video similar to the BBC world Mi vida loca series that students saw at the end of last semester.

Tarea: correct tests students got back and review/memorize present tense verbs.

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed past tense verbs by looking at English sentences and choosing which type of past tense verb to use in Spanish.
-We reviewed the difference between preterite and imperfect.
-We reviewed the conjugation of -ar and -er/-ir verbs for preterite.
-Students filled out their own sheets of verbs for the preterite (see attachment).
-HOMEWORK: worksheet on preterite (see attachment)

2nd Period Matrix- 4/3

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed phrases that use the verb "tener". We practiced using "tener" with different subjects. We discussed the difference between a subject and a verb in a sentence.
-Students practiced conversational questions in partners, including a couple new ones.
-Students learned the basics of talking about time in Spanish, how to ask and answer.
-We practiced commands/verbs.
-HOMEWORK: none

Class Activities: 

Students corrected mistakes in the following sentences:
1. Me llamo es Nikki.
2. Me gusto correr.
3. Mi amigos son amables.
4. Mi hermana's amiga es interesante.
5. Tengo no dinero.

We did a little review (days of the week, months of the year as well as some of the most common verbs).

Students paired up and are going to write a dialogue that they will perform and record based on the idea of the Mi vida loca series on BBC Mundo. The videos will be of students in Argentina.

Tarea: review present and past tense verb conjugations. We will NOT have class on Friday since there are no matrix classes at the end of the quarter.

Logan high intermediates: Realismo mágico, class 4/2/13

Class Activities: 

Students corrected their personal dictionary test and wrote in their notebook about what they did during spring break.

Students talked in pairs about their break.

We went over some vocabulary:
andén
valija
sala de espera
fingir
dirigir
alejarse

Students read La Sala de Espera, a short story in the genre realismo mágico.

Tarea: students need to research the genre of realismo mágico which we will go over on Thursday. We will meet in the reading room on Thursday.

Before School: High Beginner 4/2

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed matching present tense verbs with the correct subject.
-We reviewed conversational topics.
-I handed out an explanation sheet on the "to be" verbs, 'ser' and 'estar' (see attachments).
-We discussed the difference between these two verbs in Spanish.
-HOMEWORK: worksheet on ser/estar (see attachment). No class on Thursday, 4th quarter begins next Tuesday

-Students reviewed translating sentences that use the verb "tener".
-We did an activity where students were given a word and had to unscramble themselves into a complete sentence.
-We played a game practicing with "tener" phrases.
