3rd Period Matrix- 11/14

Class Activities: 

-Students continued discussion on music and dance of Latin cultures.
-Students read about merengue and bolero, and listened to songs of each.
-HOMEWORK: Students need to complete the question worksheet on these music/dance forms (see attachment)

2nd Period Matrix- 11/14

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed animal vocabulary.
-Students practiced categorizing animals in their habitats.
-Students practiced with the verb "vivir", to express where animals live.
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet due on Friday. *Copies can be found outside my classroom in the "2nd Period Matrix" folder.

3rd Period Matrix- 11/7

Class Activities: 

-Student reviewed questions on Jose Guadalupe Posada.
-Students who did not yet present their skeleton art did so today. Feedback will be given next week on these presentations.
-We are beginning to study Latin music and dance. Today we read about salsa and tango. Students listened to different songs and learned a few steps from the dances.
-HOMEWORK: Students should complete the reading on Mariachi and answered a question sheet on these three types. It is due next class, Wed Nov 14. (question sheet is attached, the reading can be found outside the classroom in the "3rd Period" folder)

2nd Period Matrix- 11/7

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced with review topics.
-Students reviewed new vocabulary sheets on animals (copies are outside my classroom in folder "2nd Period Matrix"- there are THREE sheets).
-We went through the vocabulary together and did an activity in groups.
-We talked a little about the verb "vivir" and students wrote a sentence for their animal with "Vivo en..." ("I live in...").
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet due next class, Wed Nov 14 (copies are outside my classroom in our folder)

Class Activities: 

Students conjugated verbs below in third person (he/she):

We went over preterite past conjugation for both -ar and -er/ir verbs:

for ar verbs, drop last two letters and add

for -er/ir verbs, drop last two letters and add:

-ieron

I quizzed students to make sure they understand how conjugations work.

Using attached worksheet, we went to the computer lab and students had the chance to see art, hear music, watch speeches, read poems, and watch athletic ability of the famous Latin American and Spaniards we've been studying the last month+. Students wrote the name of the person and their observations/opinions about the person's art/athletic ability/music/etc.

Tarea: memorize verb conjugations for regular past tense verbs. We are going to have a test about famous latinos, past tense verbs, and adjectives that describe people on Friday, November 16th. Next class (11/14) we will do some review to prepare for test but if students practice their verbs and read through what they wrote when taking notes during student presentations about dead/alive Latin Americans/Spaniards.

Before School: Beginner 11/7

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced review topics.
-Students practiced conversation in partners.
-Students learned about concordance for articles and nouns. Articles need to match their noun with both gender (masculine/feminine) and number (singular/plural). Copies of explanation are outside my door.
-We went over new vocabulary for classroom objects (see attachment).
-HOMEWORK: Students should study new vocabulary at home. They also have a worksheet to complete (copies are outside my door). This is due next class- Wed 11/14

Día de los muertos: 11/2/12

Class Activities: 

Students completed attached word search with vocabulary related to el Día de los muertos. We went over some of the vocabulary together.

Students shared information they learned and wrote about el Día de los muertos.

Kimber's classes have put together an altar for the Day of the Dead by the elevator. To contribute to the altar, students from our class had a skeleton to design and put together. On the back of the skeleton they should write some people or pets they wanted to remember and reflect on this year.
