Before School: Beginner 9/19

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced answering typical conversational questions.
-Students learned the history of Mexican Independence Day and completed a worksheet about it (see attachment).
-We celebrated the holiday by trying "Horchata", a Mexican drink, and cookies made with Dulce de Leche.
-HOMEWORK: Students must complete a worksheet about Mexican Independence Day (see attachment).

Before School: High Beginner 9/18

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed days of the week and numbers in Spanish.
-The class will be having an oral quiz in class next week on Tuesday. A study guide for the quiz was handed out (see attachment).
-Students learned about the history of Mexican Independence Day, which occurred on Sept 16.
-Students read an interview about the holiday and we discussed it as a group.
-HOMEWORK: Students have a multiple choice worksheet on the interview reading (see attachment). They should also be studying for the oral quiz.

3rd Period Matrix- 9/12

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed how to talk about the date. We will have a quiz in class next week on Friday. Students should know the months of the year and numbers. I handed out practice sheets for studying at home.
-Students presented their mini-lesson to the class.
-HOMEWORK: Students have an assignment to bring in materials (see attachment for instruction).

2nd Period Matrix- 9/12

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed days of the week and practiced talking about yesterday and tomorrow.
-We reviewed how to say the letters of the alphabet and numbers.
-We played "Loteria" (Bingo).
-HOMEWORK: Students have an assignment to bring materials into class (see attachment for instructions).

3rd Period Matrix- 9/7

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed numbers in Spanish.
-We read together a handout on how to study. Students talked about which study tip they will use this year for Spanish class.
-Students got into partners and began creating a mini-lesson for a review topic they were assigned. They will present their mini-lesson to the class next week.
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet using an online dictionary (see attachment).

2nd Period Matrix- 9/7

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced speaking the days of the week. Students completed worksheets on how to talk about today, yesterday, and tomorrow (copies of these are outside my classroom).
-Students practiced speaking the letters in the Spanish alphabet and we discussed those that are different from English.
-We reviewed how to say numbers in Spanish and played Loteria (Bingo).
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet to complete about the days of the week (copies are outside my classroom).

Before School: Beginner 9/7

Class Activities: 

-Students turned in completed homework from the tech lab assignment. If you missed class, please turn this in to my classroom as soon as possible.
-Students were given a handout with tips on how to study vocabulary in Spanish (copies can be found outside my classroom). Students discussed which tools they will use to study this year.
-We reviewed the Spanish alphabet and how to pronounce letters that are different from English.
-Students have no homework.

Fluency level: 

Before School: High Beginner 9/6

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed numbers in Spanish. Practice writing these out or saying them out loud in Spanish: 25, 37, 84, 91, 66, 92, 53
-Students were given a handout "How to study vocabulary". Copies may be found outside my classroom. Students discussed which methods they will choose to use this year to study for Spanish.
-We reviewed basic conversational questions and how to answer them.
-For homework, students have a worksheet (see attachment). It is due next class- Tues 9/11.
