Latinos famosos: 9/28/12

Class Activities: 

Students quizzed each other on information on our recent 10 minute reviews.

10 minute review: we reviewed present tense verb conjugations.

For -ar verbs, take off verb ending (-ar) and add o/as/a/amos/an
For -er verbs, take off verb ending (-er) and add e/es/e/emos/en
For -ir verbs, take off verb ending (-ir) and add e/es/e/imos/en

We made a list of famous Latin Americans and Spaniards in different fields (deportes, arte, el arena política, música). Students each chose a famous Latin American and we went to the computer lab for students to wrote 10 facts about thier person using present tense verbs. Some examples: es, le gusta, tiene, vive en, etc.

Tarea: finish 10 facts about their person using present tense verbs

Lucha Libre: luchadores 10/2/12

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and read a simple book in Spanish to a partner to practice pronunciation and oral expression in Spanish.

5 minute conversation: students talked to partner about what they did last weekend.

Students presented their luchador that they had researched to the class and I asked some follow-up questions to check listening comprehension.

Tarea: bring list of 10 connecting words in Spanish (so, therefore, because). Next class we will be working on our project for the Logan auction.

Lucha Libre: 9/27/12

Class Activities: 

Students journaled for 5 minutes about anything they wanted or could write about what they'll be doing their unit on this year.

Students had a 5 minute conversation about how their year is going so far. We are working on incorporating at least 5 minutes of typical conversations into each class because students want to become more comfortable speaking and using verbs/vocabulary in context.

We made a big mind map about Lucha Libre using information students learned about the sport. In their investigation, students learned a lot about Lucha Libre.

Before School: High Beginner 10/2

Class Activities: 

-Students corrected sentences in Spanish using descriptive vocabulary we practiced last class.
-We reviewed how to use the website to check our homework and stay on top of assignments.
-Students were given feedback on their oral quizzes from last week.
-We practiced conversation as a group.
-I handed out a second sheet of "Como es?" vocabulary. We reviewed the use of the verb "ser" (to be).
-Students learned how two things need to match when use adjectives in Spanish: the gender (masculine/feminine) and plurality. Describing boys ends in "o", describing girls ends in "a"; For more than one person, add an "s" at the end.
-HOMEWORK: Students must complete the two exercises on the bottom of their vocabulary sheet (see attachment).

3rd Period Matrix- 9/28

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed using adjectives to describe people, making sure both gender (masculine/feminine endings) and number (plural or not) match.
-We reviewed conjugation of the verb "tener" (to have) and created sentences describing ourselves.
-We played "Quien tiene la moneda?" (Who has the coin?) to practice with this vocabulary.
-HOMEWORK: Students should study their list of characteristics at home.

2nd Period Matrix- 9/28

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed how to respond to the question, "Como estas?" (How are you?)
-Students were given handouts with conversational questions and words (copies are outside my classroom). In partners, student practiced having simple conversations in Spanish with each other.
-We reviewed numbers and days of the week. Students played a calendar game in groups.
-HOMEWORK: Students have no homework.

Class Activities: 

-Students corrected sentences in Spanish.
-Students were given a vocabulary sheet with words used to describe people (see attachment). We discussed how to conjugate the verb "tener" (to have) for different subjects and practiced describing ourselves.
-We also reviewed the verb "ser" (to be) and will practice with it more next class.
-HOMEWORK: Students must use "tener" and the middle section of descriptive words to describe two people in their family (or close to them). The sentences are due in class next Tuesday.

3rd Period Matrix- 9/26

Class Activities: 

-Students corrected sentences written in Spanish.
-Students made their own dictionaries to add words to throughout the year.
-We read together a reading that included new vocabulary of describing people. (copies outside my classroom)
-We reviewed using the verb "ser", which means "to be".
-Students were given two pages of vocabulary for describing people (see attachment). We will be practicing these more in class in the next couple weeks.
-We discussed the two things that need to match when using an adjective, or descriptive word: gender and plurality. If the person is a boy or girl, the ending is either "o" or "a". If there is more than one person, "s" should be at the end.
-HOMEWORK: Student must complete the two activities at the bottom of their "Como estas? Parte II" sheet. It is due in class on Friday.

2nd Period Matrix- 9/26

Class Activities: 

-Students review how to talk about what day tomorrow is.
-We read a story called, "En la escuela" ("At school"), which was in both Spanish and English. Through the reading we learned several new phrases (copies of reading can be found outside my classroom).
-Students learned the conversational question, "Como estas?" which means "How are you?"
-We practiced different responses by acting them out.
-Students practiced in asking each other and responding to this question.
-Student were given vocab lists for the emotions (copies outside my classroom).
-HOMEWORK: Students have a worksheet on emotions and "Como estas?" (copies outside my classroom). It is due in class on Friday.
