Explorando América latina: En la cocina (4/6/12)

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and found their station including ingredients and their recipe for making their country's dish. Students needed to follow our rules decided on in the prior class, including using care with the stove, oven and knives, washing hands, and speaking Spanish in the kitchen.

Students had the remainder of class to make their dish and plate it for other students to try. Students made:
* alfajores: Argentina
* dobladas: Guatemala
* cajeta de coco: Costa Rica
* platátanos fritos: Costa Rica y Honduras

Tarea: students should have handed in their rough draft of their book page about food today. A few groups did not hand in their page which they need to hand in next Wednesday (although it will be considered late). Students who handed in their page have no homework.

Students wrote translations to following verbs:

We went over them as a class.

Students were each assigned a review topic. Their task was to teach a mini lesson (5 minutes or less) and organize an activity to practice the concept. Several students presented today, including:
* familia (vocabulario)
* 2 verbos

Tarea: study 45 of the most common verbs we've been doing for do now activity and make notecards for the ones they don't know.

Students wrote definitions to following verbs:

We went over them as a class.

* futuro próximo (ir a + infinitivo)
* presente progresivo (estar + ando/iendo)
* gustar

3rd Period Matrix- 4/6

Class Activities: 

-Students corrected each others' homework on preterite (past) tense verbs.
-Together, we looked at the conjugation of a few irregular verbs in preterite tense.
-Students began a worksheet of a reading, where they must fill in the correct verb. We will continue working on this next class.
-Students have no homework.

Before School: Ser y Estar (4/6)

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced with the verbs “ser” and “estar”. In partners, they created their own sentences using these verbs.
-Students read a story and answered questions involving these verbs. (see attachment)
-For homework, students have a worksheet due next class, Wednesday 4/11 (see attachment).

2nd Period Matrix- 4/4

Class Activities: 

-Students were handed back their quizzes to see their scores.
-We discussed new vocabulary of sports. Students filled out vocabulary sheets and took a tally of which sports other students like to play. (see attachment)
-We also learned action words associated with each sport.
-For homework, students have a worksheet due Friday 4/6 (see attachment)

Class Activities: 

-The second group presented their skit to the rest of the class.
-We began discussing the conjugation of past tense verbs. We will be talking about two different forms in class. Today we discussed one: preterite. Students filled out verb sheets using this verb tense. (see attachments)
-For homework, students have a worksheet due Friday 4/6 (see attachment).

Before School: Ser y Estar (4/4)

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed conjugation of the verb “ser”.
-We reviewed our previous discussion of the difference between the verbs “ser” and “estar”. Students practiced categorizing English sentences into the correct “to be” verb.
-For homework, students have a worksheet due on Friday 4/6 (see attachment)

Explorando América Latina: la cocina

Class Activities: 

The first activity was an information gap activity, where each students had different information and they needed to work together to solve a problem. The activity was related to recipes and ingredients, which we are going to use for our upcoming time in the kitchen.

We will be cooking on Friday, and went over and agreed to some rules to the kitchen.

We went over some basic appliances in the kitchen:
* refrigeradora
* estufa
* horno
* fregadero

Students are going to spend the next several weeks studying the country they've chosen from the Spanish-speaking world. They are going to put together a book talking about what they've learned about the country. Students had the remainder of class to work on the page of their book related to food. They could use the worksheet they answered questions about from our last class to create a text talking about food from their country.

Tarea: rough draft of food page of their book is due Friday. Also several students did not complete their corrections to their test and need to bring those in Friday. Students should go directly to the kid's kitchen for class on Friday.
