AS Beginner: Wed April 9

Class Activities: 

-Students gave feedback about 3rd quarter Spanish.
-We went over the phrase of the day, "No entiendo=I don't understand"
-Students practiced conversation in groups.
-We began talking about our next theme-Spain.

Class Activities: 

Para empezar: ¿Qué sabes de España?

We went over what students know about Spain.

Students did show and tell and shared something they brought from home. We made a list of great vocabulary:
* hacer un truco
* Londres
* París
* la fila = la cola
* ardilla
* avellana
* nuez
* escarabajo
* armar
* extranjero
* billetes
* monedas

Students had a few minutes to practice their script.

Tarea: be ready to present their script (with props and costumes if anyone wants to wear them) for Kimber's class on Friday.

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and wrote down what they know about Spain and we went over it.

Students put their two items on a big map of Spain and shared what they wrote on the map with the group.

Students had 15 minutes in the computer lab to go over the attached Spain trivia. Any questions they didn't finish in class are homework.

Class Activities: 

Students corrected the following sentences:
1. Me gusto los animales.
2. Avery gusta viajar.
3. Te encantan el chocolate.
4. No gusto este ejercicio.
5. Le encanta las sorpresas.

We put a big blank map of Spain on the board and each student came up and wrote their two things on the map they had chosen for homework (cities, water, regions, etc.).

Students spent 10 minutes practicing their script they will perform after break for Kimber's Spanish class.

We finished playing a Dominican Republic review game.

tarea: bring a show and tell item and be prepared to talk 3 minutes in Spanish to the group next class after break.

AS Beginner: Fri Mar 28

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed present tense verbs and changing them for each subject.
-We played a game for review with verbs and their meaning in English.
-We read through "Como parece tu dia normal?" and found the subjects and verbs in each sentence.
-TAREA: none

Class Activities: 

Students corrected following mistakes:
1. Me encanto Buenos Aires.
2. Portia le gusta viajar.
3. No gusto los insectos.
4. JP le gustan el baloncesto.
5. Lydia encanta bambolear.

We talked about other verbs like gustar:
* gustar
* encantar
*fascinar
* importar
* dar asco

Students presented how to do something in Spanish (paper airplane, instant coffee, shooting a basket, eat ice cream, eat a cookie). Some new vocabulary came up through this process:
* morder
* masticar
* tragar
* sabor
* pulgar
* dedo índice
* dedo medio
* dedo anular
* meñique
* muñeca
* codo

We talked about the short play we will present to Kimber's class the Thursday after spring break. Students divided up who is going to bring what props and costumes next class when we will practice.

We finished playing a review game about the Dominican Republic and phrases of the day.

Tarea: next quarter we are studying Spain, so students need to look at a map of Spain and be able to put two things (cities, regions, bodies of water, mountains) on the map.

3rd Period Matrix: Wed Mar 26

Class Activities: 

-Students took a quiz on past tense verbs.
-We learned a chant about prepositions and practiced them with a game.
-Students read out loud the "Dia Normal" assignments of other students and we tried to guess who's it was.
-We played the speed cards game to try to beat the previous time.
-TAREA: none

2nd Period Matrix: Wed Mar 26

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions about our storytelling activity last week.
-We reviewed the homework questions from "La isla bonita" reading.
-We read together a reading about a boy's daily routine in the Dominican Republic. We talked a little about past tense verbs.
-We joined Nikki's class in the kitchen for a celebration of their end of quarter. We tried several dishes from Latin American cuisine, including alfajores, binuelos, and tres leche cake.

Class Activities: 

-Students matched subjects with present tense verbs.
-We played a game for review with Dominican Republic vocab.
-Students read their pages from our class books.
-We did a reading together about a boy's typical day in Dominican Republic.
-We played a speed game against the other Matrix classes.
