Class Activities: 

Students arrived and practiced their phrases of the day

we finished reading the play we were reading

we went over the uses of the future and did some translations.

tarea: show and tell Thursday (bring something in and be prepared to talk for 3 minutes in Spanish). We need to work a bit more on speaking and presenting.

AS Beginner: Wed Mar 12

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed subjects and verbs in present tense.
-We reviewed the calendar and how to talk about time.
-We did a listening activity talking about the daily routine of someone from Santo Domingo.
-TAREA: Students should bring blank notecards to class on Friday; also, study the vocab list at home

AS High Beginner: Tues Mar 11

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed use of verbs in the present tense.
-Our Spanish Phrase of the Day is: Mas despacio, por favor (Speak slowly, please).
-We reviewed the verb "ser" (Yo soy; Tu eres; El/Ella es; Nosotros somos; Ellos son)
-We played a team game for practice with conjugation in present tense. We will review this more before moving on to past tense verbs.
-TAREA: Study verbs and phrase of the day at home

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and turned in their homework about Carnaval. We cooked in class today with Kimber's class to celebrate Carnaval. Students made:
* King cake (student with raisin gets good luck for the year!)
* Brazilian brigadeiros
* Brazilian cheese bread

Tarea: no homework for students who handed in their Carnaval text. Several students did not hand it in.

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and finished making Brazilian brigadeiros that we had made for Carnaval.

We went over future conjugation:

infinitive plus:

  • é
  • ás
  • á
  • emos
  • án

We talked about the difference between future and futuro próximo

We watched a quick SNL skit called La policía mexicana and I planted a seed that we may write a similar satirical skit in class perhaps for our end of year project.

Students started reading a play which we will finish next week.
