2nd Period Matrix: Wed Feb 26

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed merengue music and dance.
-We talked about Carnaval, and reviewed vocab from last year.
-Students read about Carnaval traditions in Dominican Republic. We watched a video on their parade. We will finish talking about this on Friday.
-TAREA: Students have a trivia sheet to complete for Friday. They should use the internet to research the answers to the trivia questions about Dominican Republic.

1st Period Matrix w/ Kimber: Wed Feb 26

Class Activities: 

-Students practiced using "gustar" to talk about what people like to do. I handed out an explanation sheet for how to use this verb.
-We talked about the festival of "Carnaval", similar to Mardi Gras here in the U.S. I handed out a vocab list for words we'll use to talk about this holiday.
-Students read out loud from "Carnaval por todo el mundo", a reading that shares Carnaval traditions from kids in different countries.
-We began working on Carnaval masks. Next week we will join Nikki's class to celebrate the festival, and have a mask competition.
-TAREA: Students have a worksheet due Friday.

Class Activities: 

Students translated the following words of the day:

Students each had 5 conversations about their breaks. We went over conjugations to talk about their trips (fui a, miré, dormí, lo pasé bien, comí, visité, esquié). The question to start was ¿Qué tal las vacaciones?

We played a little musical chairs and the person eliminated had to conjugate: preterite, present, present progressive, futuro próximo

tarea: study conjugations because we'll have a test soon on verb conjugations: preterite, present, present progressive, futuro próximo

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and wrote about their break. Students talked to one other student about their week off.

To practice the conditional, I wrote 7 first lines of a "children's book" using a hypothetical situation, ej. Si pudiera volar and students each wrote the next line. As a class, we came up with 7 different short children's books and read them aloud to the class.

Tarea: look up the conjugation to the future (very similar to conditional, but with different endings) and write down the conjugation.

AS Beginner: Wed Feb 26

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed use of present tense verbs.
-We practiced a chant about months of the year, and one about prepositions.
-We read about the festival Carnival, and typical celebrations around the world.
-Students were given a vocab list about Carnival.
-We looked at photos of costumes, masks, and parades from Carnival festivals.
-TAREA: Students have a worksheet due Friday.

AS High Beginner: Tues Feb 25

Class Activities: 

-Students took a pop quiz on most common verbs.
-Students read about characters in the Dominican Carnival celebrations (copies outside in the folder).
-We reviewed action words.
-We went through the vocab for the reading together, and also went over "defile = parade"
-We watched a video clip of a Carnival parade in the Dominican Republic.
-TAREA: Study the vocab list at home for use in class

1st Period Matrix w/ Kimber: Wed Feb 12

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions about our storytelling activity and created a new ending for it.
-We reviewed body parts and played Simon Dice. I handed out a sheet with all the words we went over.
-We talked about the verb "gustar" and how to talk about what someone likes to do.
-We did a listening activity for practice with this verb.
-Students received a treat for winning the last soccer game against Nikki's class.
-TAREA: none
