Logan intermediates 5/20/13: verbos

Class Activities:

Today was all about verbs.

Students arrived and filled in all the verbs they know on the attached 100 most common verbs. We went over the list as a class.

We reviewed the concept of an infinitive verb -- which is the "complete" verb -- comer = to eat, trabajar = to work. There are 3 types of infinitive verbs in Spanish -- verbs ending in -ar, -er, -ir and the -er/-ir verbs often act in the same way.

We also reviewed present tense verb conjugations. Students competed in board races practicing conjugation of present tense regular verbs, and then I added some irregulars.

Tarea: make 50 notecards of the 100 most common verbs, Spanish on one side and English on the other. Also, review preterite conjugation, for ar verbs (é, aste, ó, amos, aron) for er/ir (í, iste, ió, imos, ieron).

Class Activities:

We visited nearby Spanish language grocery store in class today. Students looked around and chose some things we will make in our next class and were welcome to buy anything they wanted to try using our class budget. Students were also tasked to learn a new word.

Tarea: no hay. We will try some of the food we bought today next class.

Logan intermediates 5/17/13: assessment, menu, videos

Class Activities:

Students arrived and took an assessment to help determine their level for next year (see attached letter).

With remaining time, some students finished their videos as several groups have had technical difficulties with the camera. Other students completed their menu for the food they will be making the last day of class.

Several students will be gone the week of May 20th, so we will be working heavily on verbs, including the 100 most common verbs (attached) with verb drills and conjugations.

Tarea: for students who will be here next week, practice present tense conjugation because we'll be drilling verbs next class. For the last day of class, Tuesday May 28th, students will bring food from their "restaurant" and we will be practicing conversations in a restaurant.
