1st Period Matrix w/ Kimber: Wed Sept 25

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed some basic topics in Spanish.
-Students were given sheets with vocab for having a conversation (extra copies are outside my classroom).
-Students practiced conversation in partners.
-We practiced the alphabet.
-We looked at photos of typical things found in Mexico, or that come from Mexico.
-Students were given vocab lists about Mexico. We filled them out together.
-Next class we will make our own Loteria (Bingo) cards.
-TAREA: Students must complete a worksheet for Friday (you can print it here or pick it up outside my classroom).

Fluency level: 

AS Beginner: Wed Sept 25

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed verbs and commands.
-We talked about the days of the week and date.
-Students learned how to talk about things you like to do. We discussed "infinitive" verbs in Spanish, which always end in "ar", "er" or "ir".
-Students were given a handout on the verb "gustar" and vocabulary for activities.
-Students read about two people from Mexico and what they like to do.
-TAREA: There is a worksheet to complete. The last part might be a little difficult, but try your best.

Students answered true false quesitons below:

  7. Frida Kahlo y Diego Rivera eran de México. Verdadero falso
  8. El país directamente al sur de México es Panamá. Verdadero falso

Students took a quick verb quiz practicing preterite, present, futuro próximo:

  1. They went
  2. We are going to travel
  3. I eat
  4. I am going to live
  5. You walk
  6. She is going to sell
  7. He ate
  8. We are going to forget
  9. They ran
  10. You all study

repaso: we went over some vocabulary about time (hoy, mañana, ayer, anoche, ahora, etc.)

Students had some time in the computer lab with a blank map of Mexico and they had to fill in bodies of water, important cities, regions, geography and tourist attractions.

Tarea: keep reviewing 100 most common verbs and past, future, present conjugations

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and fixed mistakes below:

4. Hay mucho estudiantes.

juego de repaso: students competed in teams to answer questions about recent review topics (numbers, family members, el/la, verbs, words of the day)

Students went to the computer lab with a blank map of Mexico and had to add information to it (5 main cities, important regions and geography, bodies of water, northern and southern country).

Tarea: complete adding information to map

AS High Beginner: Tues Sept 24

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed present tense verbs with sentences and a game.
-We began talking about Lucha Libre and what students know about it already.
-Students began a reading on Lucha Libre and answering questions about it (see attachment).
-TAREA: Students need to finish the reading and answering the questions. *The question sheets can be found outside my classroom in our folder. ****Students from Shae's class do not need to make up this work, we will do this next week when Max/Jamie's classes are on trips****

2nd Period Matrix: Fri Sept 20

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed common topics.
-We practiced using Spanish-English dictionaries.
-Students split up into groups and created skits of recreations of Hidalgo's speech to the town of Dolores.
-They presented their skits to each other.
-Students tried a typical Mexican treat, buñuelos.
-TAREA: none

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed vocabulary for Mexican Independence Day.
-We played musical sombrero.
-We practiced the alphabet and pronunciation of letters.
-Students tried a typical treat from Mexico, buñuelos.
-TAREA: Homework is a worksheet on Mexican Independence Day (copies can be found outside my room or printed from below). It is due next class- Wed Sept 25

AS Beginner: Fri Sept 20

Class Activities: 

-Students answered questions in Spanish about our story. They also reviewed the vocabulary for Mexican Independence Day.
-We watched the video clip from this year's celebration in Mexico City that took place on Sunday.
-I showed students paintings of Hidalgo's famous speech.
-We talked about the "grito" the school will do this afternoon in the Compass.
-Students tried typical Mexican treats: horchata and bunuelos.

Students answered T/F questions and we went over them as a class:
