AS High Beginner: Thurs Sept 19

Class Activities: 

-Students took the oral quiz on conversation questions.
-We reviewed the information about Mexican Independence Day.
-Students tried a couple treats from Mexico: horchata (cinnamon rice milk) and dulce de leche (caramel).
-Students made bell necklaces to bring to el "grito" on Friday.
-TAREA: none

2nd Period Matrix: Wed Sept 18

Class Activities: 

-Students read about the history of and reviewed a vocabulary list for Mexican Independence Day.
-We reviewed verbs and body parts with Simon Dice.
-We reviewed our reading as a group and looked at pictures of this festival. We watched a video clip from the actual celebration this week in Mexico City.
-We talked about the "grito" (shout) that we will do at school in honor of the festival. It will take place this Friday at 1:10 at the Compass.
-Students were given maps of Mexico and marked the city of Dolores on it.
-They also made bell necklaces to bring to the "grito".
-TAREA: Students have a worksheet to complete. If you were missing on a trip, please look over the reading, vocabulary, and multiple choice worksheet. Do your best to answer the questions. We will talk more about this holiday when you return.

1st Period Matrix w/ Kimber: Wed Sept 18

Class Activities: 

-Students reviewed a vocabulary list for Mexican Independence Day.
-Students learned about the popular music of Mexico, mariachi. We danced to mariachi music and reviewed our verbs.
-We read together the "History of Mexican Independence Day". We watched a video clip from the actual celebration this week in Mexico City.

Students answered the following questions we had gone over last class:

Repaso: For review, we went over the verb gustar and how it is used in a different way than a typical verb.

We also went over numbers 1-1000

We talked briefly about Mexican independence day which was celebrated this week. Students watched a short video of "El grito de independencia 2013".

Tarea: research and write down in Spanish 6 interesting things they learned about Mexico. All Logan Spanish classes will be studying Mexico first quarter.

AS Beginner: Wed Sept 18

Class Activities: 

-We reviewed the three conversation questions from last week and also practiced in partners.
-We reviewed verb commands.
-We talked about the days of the week.
-We finished our storytelling activity from last class.
-TAREA: Students have a reading to complete and a list of vocabulary to look over (see attachment).

Class Activities: 

Students translated the following verbs and we went over them as a group:

salir/marcharse
mirar
tener entender
abrir poner
aceptar querer/desear
aprender ponerse de pie
bailar estudiar
beber traducir
caber hablar
caerse cantar
cambiar firmar

Frase del día: El ave temprano atrapa el lombriz

One group of students taught the preterite conjugation to the group and facilitated an activity to practice. The group taught irregular conjugations as well and students should be familiar with the most common irregular verbs (hacer, tener, decir, ir, ser).

We talked briefly about Mexican independence day which was celebrated this week. Students watched a short video of "El grito de independencia 2013".

Tarea: Read attached text and answer attached questions about Mexican Independence Day.

AS High Beginner: Tues Sept 17

Class Activities: 

-Students read about the history of Mexico's Independence Day and studied vocabulary about the holiday.
-We reviewed verbs from last week.
-We went through the reading together and looked at photos from Mexican Independence Day.
-We will be doing a school-wide "Grito" in honor of this holiday on Friday Sept 21 at 1:10pm.
-TAREA: students have a worksheet to complete. Also, we will have an oral quiz on Thursday on conversation questions.

Class Activities: 

Students wrote a name of the person described below from last class.

  1. Tiene un perrito que se llama Tuck.
  2. Le gusta el tenís.
  3. Tiene un pez, mariposa, y perro.
  4. Le gusta la comida mexicana, italiana, y china.
  5. Fue a Europa y Wisconsin este verano.
  6. Juega al basquetbol y fútbol.

Students had a few more minutes to talk to 3 new students in class, asking questions about themselves including: familia, pasatiempos, favoritos, su maestro, mascotas.

Students shared what they learned about various students to the group.

We went over a few concepts:
mucho/a/os/as
singular to plural:
mesa, mesas (word ends in vowel, add s)
ratón, ratones (word ends in consonant, add es)
lápiz, lápices (word ends in z, z changes to c and add es)

pez plural is peces
difference between pez and pescado

tarea: keep working on memorizing 100 most common verbs
