AS Beginner: Wed Nov 6

Class Activities: 

-Students gave feedback about 1st quarter.
-Students practiced conversation in partners.
-We talked about the date and day of the week.
-We practiced the alphabet.
-We played a counting game.
-We began talking about our next theme, Argentina. Students were given a map and some facts about this country. We played a game using six regions of Argentina.

We went over what students knew about Argentina, the country we are studying this quarter.

We went to the computer lab and students were given the attached worksheet with clues and had to figure out answers.

Tarea: 10 sentences using the present progressive with a drawing I gave them from a Jorge el curioso book

Students fixes mistakes using the present progressive in following sentences:

  1. Ellos trabajando mucho.
  2. Yo estás comiendo.
  3. El hablando por teléfono.
  4. Tú estás escribando una carta.
  5. Nosotros están corriendo.

Palabra del día: quisquilloso

Students competed in teams to do translations using the present progressive.

We celebrated el Día de los muertos by making a small ofrenda out of clay that we added to the school-wide ofrenda.

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and corrected their test as our first activity.

I also taught students verb acabar de = to have just (done something), used with an infinitive verb
Acabo de despertarme (I just woke up)

I taught students the imperfect past conjugation and contrasted it with preterite. Students read a chapter of La maldición de la cabeza reducida and noted whether verbs were imperfect or preterite.

Spanish-program wide we are studying Argentina this quarter, so students were paired up and tasked to come up with 10 clues about a topic related to Argentina. Ej. the group who had important people in Argentina could come up with clues:

  1. Es la presidenta de Argentina: _________________
  2. Era la esposa del presidente peronista que es famosa en el mundo: _________________

Tarea: if students arrived late and didn't complete their quiz corrections they need to finish that. Students each have to come up with 3 clues (explained above).

Class Activities: 

Students wrote the opposite words for the following:

  1. grande
  2. perezoso
  3. alto
  4. gordo
  5. guapo
  6. izquierda
  7. enseñar
  8. entrar
  9. subir
  10. largo

We celebrated el día de los muertos by cutting out a fabric calavera and students wrote the name of someone they remember and want to celebrate. They pinned them on their backpacks as a reminder. We also made an ofrenda out of clay and put it with the school-wide ofrenda.

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and translated 5 sentences using the present progressive.

estar (estoy, estás, está, estamos, están) + ando/iendo

palabra del día: moco, mocoso (adj.) (this was a vocabulary question from a student and seemed like a good word of the day;)

Students sat in a circle and we each wrote a sentence using the present progressive and passed the sheet to the right. The next person drew a picture based on the sentence and then folded over the original sentence so the next person wrote a present progressive sentence based on the picture drawn.

We talked briefly about day of the dead and will be doing something in class Friday to celebrate the tradition.

Class Activities: 

Students arrived and took a test about verbs in the present, preterite, near future, frases del día, information about Mexico and 100 most common verbs.

If students finished early, they read La maldición de la cabeza reduced aloud with a partner to practice pronunciation.

-Students finished working on their "catrinas".
-Students took turns sharing their "catrinas" and descriptions with the class.
-We visited the ofrenda and some students added names to it. We added the "catrinas" as decorations.
